How To Prepare For Job Interviews

by , under

Even the most confident people can get the jitters during job interviews, but all you have to be is confident and make sure that you leave the recruiters with a great impression. The following tips will help you to achieve this when you prepare for job interviews.

Do your research

Before going for the interview make sure you learn about the company that is hiring you. Research online about the company, the names of the key people, and other things that you feel are important, such as the types of products or services that the company provides or the markets that it operates in.

Doing your research before you go for your interview can save you from embarrassment when you are asked anything about the company at your job interview. Also, once you have completed your research on the company you can make a list of all your skills and other positive points that are required for the job that you are applying for so that you can highlight these during the interview.

Remember the basics

1. Your appearance at the interview will speak volumes about you, so make sure you dress appropriately and smartly. Your aim is to look your professional best at the same time as showing that you are comfortable with the outfit you have chosen to wear. If you are not comfortable in a particular suit or dress, do not wear it, as it will be very obvious to the interviewer.

2. When you attend a job interview you should prepare all your important documents beforehand. Take any qualifications documents, a hard copy of your resume, your references, if any, and other important papers with you to the interview so that you have these available to refer to and also to provide additional copies if necessary.

3. It is very important that you are on time, as this is one of the easiest ways to create a good first impression. Try to reach the interview venue at least 15 minutes earlier than the fixed time so you are not rushing at the last minute.

Remember your manners and be organized

1. You should always be polite and respectful during any job interviews, as an interviewer will also be working out how well you will fit into the existing work team if you get the job. One of the best ways to show this is simply to be polite, as any other mannerism can be construed the wrong way.

2. Carry a pen and a book or writing pad so that you can access these easily when you need to, as you do not want to appear disorganized for something so minor.

3. Switch off your cell phone. In a job interview situation it is considered extremely rude if your cell phone rings during the interview and it can also distract you just as you are answering an interview question. Don't just put it on vibrate, switch it off all together.

4. Shake hands with everyone you meet and smile. You should always aim to portray a positive and enthusiastic approach and you can achieve this by the simple act of smiling.
